Ok, let me just start off by saying, this was way harder than I had anticipated.. and by no means am I a fashion critic, I am simply giving my own personal opinion (as your average gal).
Based on last year's red carpet looks, I was very excited to see what was installed for 2018's Met Gala. And boy, did it deliver.
A fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the night represents the grand opening for the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit. Celebrating the theme of the exhibit, the red carpet adopts the same idea, with celebrities and designers interpreting their take on the subject. This year's theme...
"Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination"There are so many contender's for this year's best dressed - it was a struggle, but I managed to cut it down to 3 lovely ladies. I will say, there were many looks that I considered beautiful, but didn't quite resemble the theme, as much as others. I really wanted to chose something that I personally thought was a reflection of the theme and hence the chosen looks below... (in no particular order)
Miss Rihanna in custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano and Christian Louboutin Heels.
Um, hello? Who wasn't totally gobsmacked by this gorgeous ensemble? Just... WOW! If this isn't a definite representation of 'Heavenly Bodies', then I don't know what it. I love this look, and I honestly don't think anyone could of pulled this off, better than Rihanna. I think it is the perfect mix of religion and fashion - I love it!
Miss Jennifer Lopez in Balmain and Jimmy Choo Shoes.
Ok, so we all know Jenny from the block, still got it, right? Because, damnnn.. she killed it with this look. I love this dress because, in my eyes, compared to Rihanna's outfit, it's more wearable. Take myself for example (not that I will ever get the chance to walk a red carpet), hypothetically speaking if I was to choose to wear any of the dresses, I would probably choose this lovely Balmain number. When it comes to 'fashion' I'm pretty simple, and let's be real, I probably wouldn't wear anything that's OTT. In saying that, I still believe the religious embellishments are a statement within themselves. I love how simple the style of the dress is, but how extravagant the detailing is - in my eyes, it's the best of both worlds.
Miss Winnie Harlow in Tommy Hilfiger and Odd Commodities Headpiece.
From one extreme to the other.. This white, Tommy Hilfiger piece is absolutely stunning. Paired with that beautiful headpiece, I honestly think Winnie radiates angelic vibes - and I'm living for it. This particular pick was totally unexpected, but I was swept away by the pure beauty of this overall look.
Honorable mentions..
